SPC VITA SITE: Free Tax Preparation Available for Eligible Residents

January 8, 2020

Alexa Saavedra, Strategic Communications Coordinator

The St. Philip’s College Business Information Solutions Department prepares to provide annual services to assist community members during tax season.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program will begin operation on January 21, 2020, through April 15, 2020, in the Bowden Building (room 110) at 1801 Martin Luther King Drive. Services include free VITA Program classroom instruction from volunteer tax preparers and free asset- and wealth-building education services. Eligible residents include individuals and families who earn up to $60,000 annually.

Tax returns are prepared by trained and certified volunteers. These volunteers undergo a minimum of 20 hours of training and must pass an exam specified by the IRS before they are allowed to prepare and submit a tax return. The VITA staff and volunteers are held to the highest standards of confidentiality, quality and customer service. Our VITA program has been a successful tax preparation site for over 20 years, processing over 4,000 income tax returns for students and community members annually. The hours of operation are listed below.

  • Monday and Wednesday:  1:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Thursday and Friday: 1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
  • Saturdays:  9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
